| Erfreulicherweise ist dieses
Modell als Österreich Edition erschienen. Die Freude war für viele
Modellbahner nur von kurzer Dauer. Das Modell kommt mit der
21 poligen Schnittstelle. Viele
Decoderhersteller haben dafür noch keine passenden Angebote. Die von vielen
Händlern angebotenen Decoder fahren das Modell zudem äußerst schlecht. |

Liliput
presented recently the 4030 commuter train. The announcement was well
received in Austria. The model presents a
21 pin interface. Unfortunately
the decoder offering is quite limited in this area. Especially most of them
operate the model quite bad. |
| Der Triebwagenzug ist als 3-teiliges Set erhältlich. Die beigelegte Tauschachse mit Haftreifen ist für
bergige Anlagen wohl unerlässlich. Eigentlich würde auch nur etwas Ballast
ausreichen. |

The train is
available as a 3 part train. There is a swap axle which is highly
recommended to install if the train should run on a layout with hills.
Actually more weight would do the trick as well. |

| Der Decoder ist von außen leicht
zugänglich von unten hinter einer Klappe in einem Schacht untergebracht. das
erlaubt die einfache Decoderinstallation, ohne das Modell zerlegen zu
müssen. Leider bleibt einem das nicht erspart um ein Lichtproblem zu
reparieren, Details dazu weiter unten. |

The decoder
is easy to install. There is a special housing underneath the body. This
allows installation without the requirement to open the model. Unfortunately
this is necessary to fix a light error, details on this further down |

| Das Einbauen bereitet soweit
keine Schwierigkeiten. Die Lösung mit der kleinen Platine im Schacht schaut
aber etwas unprofessionell aus. Die 21. Schnittstelle wäre wohl leichter
benutzbar könnte man den Decoder flach einstecken. Daneben wäre die
Verwendung der PluX Variante für ein Modell mit DC Motor, die seit 2005
diskutiert wird, wohl sinnvoller gewesen. Beide Steckervarianten sind
derzeit (frühes 2007) noch nicht als Norm verabschiedet, daher auch das
zurückhaltende Decoderangebot dafür. |

The
installation itself is not a big deal. The solution with the little PCB
inside looks like a quick and dirty last minute change. It would be easier
if the interface would allow a flat installation. Additionally using the
Plux22 connection would be a better solution. The model uses a DC motor. The
definition is discussed since 2005 but still not released by the NMRA. Also
the 21 Pin connector is not releases by the norming body. (situation early
2007). This might be the reason for the limitted decoder offerings. |

Schrumpfschlauch am Rand des Decoders musste entfernt werden. |

Leider ist die Schaltung des
Modells völlig sinnbefreit. Der 4030 hat LED Beleuchtungen und verbraucht
damit relativ wenig Strom. Im Modell sind die LEDs alle über Transistoren geschaltet. Schön gemacht nur angesichts der geringen Ströme die
LEDs benötigen hätte man sich die Übung sparen können. Den Strom von etwa
100-200mA sollte jeder Decoder können. Falls Glühlämpchen Verwendung fänden,
würde würde die Schaltung aber durchaus Sinn machen.
Leider wurde das Innenlicht fix mit der Spitzenbeleuchtung gekoppelt. Es ist
an sich über F1 schaltbar, wenn aber das Spitzenlicht eingeschaltet ist ist
der Steuerwagen immer beleuchtet. Das geschieht durch eine ODER Verknüpfung
mittels Dioden D20 und D21.

Unfortunately the circuit makes absolutely no sense.
The 4030 offers LED light. This is saving a lot of power. The circuit runs
all LEDs via transistors. This removes load form the decoder. As the overall
consumption is around 100-200mA this protection seems unnecessary to me. If
bulbs would be used this design would make sense.
Unfortunately the cab light is coupled with the
headlight. It is possible to control the cab light via F1 if the headlight
is turned off. If the headlight is on the cab light can not be turned off.
It is coupled via 2 LEDs (D20 and D21). It forms an OR circuit.

the 2 diodes and the coupling is gone. F1 lets you set the function
individually. |
| Die Umsetzung ist ganz einfach
und leicht. Das entfernen kann von jedem Modellbahner der ein wenig löten
kann selbst durchgeführt werden. Ein mäßig feiner Elektroniklötkolben reicht
völlig aus. |

The
installation is quick and easy. Just remove D20/21 and you are done. If you
can operate a soldering iron the job should not be difficult. Use a fine
soldering iron to execute this. |

Die Einstellung des Decoders ist problemlos. Die Regelung passt gut, man
kann versuchen, ob beim konkreten Modell mit CV56=44/55/66 bessere
Fahreigenschaften herauszuholen wären.
Die Innenbeleuchtung ist nach dem Entfernen der Dioden über F1 zu
schalten. Mittels Functionmapping kann man auch noch F2 oder F3 dafür
programmieren. Höhere Funktionstasten sind nach dem NMRA Functionmapping
nicht zuordenbar.
Es erfolgt automatisch ein rot/weiß gekoppelter Lichtwechsel. Bei einem
Triebwagenzug sicher ausreichend sinnvoll. Die höherpoligen Schnittstellen
böten aber genügend Möglichkeiten sich von dieser Idee zu trennen und rot
und weiß auf getrennte Pins zu legen um z.B.: ein Rangierlicht weiß
vorne/hinten zu ermöglichen.

Programming the decoder is easy. the regulation goes
well. Eventually values of CV56=44,55,66 might be tested. I used CV56=55 the
default.
The cab light can be controlled via F1, after removing
the diodes. The function key can be mapped to F2 and F3 as well. Higher keys
are not available via the NMRA function mapping.
There is a automatic coupling of red / white
headlight, which is quite fine for such a train. As there is a high density
interface manufacturers should consider to run that separate. This would
allow a white / white switcher mode light definition.

Im Jahr 2007 hat Liliuput einige weitere Varianten des Modells
veröffentlicht. Die Elektrik Probleme wurden zunächst nur verändert, und
schließlich in einer der weiteren Versionen behoben.
Für die 21 polige Schnittstelle (MTX) gibt es inzwischen den MX64D der
direkt eingesteckt werden kann.

During 2007 Liliput came up with various other buggy
electronic versions. Finally they managed to do a clean version as well.
For the 21 pin (MTX) interface ZIMO came out with the
MX64D which carries the plug directly on the decoder board

PluX Adapter
|

Das Modell wird weiterhin mit der 21 poligen MTC Schnittstelle
vertrieben. Es gibt aber keine MTC Sounddecoder die in das Decoderfach passen
würden. Der dünne PluX Adapter erlaubt einen PluX16 Sounddecoder wie den
MX648 von ZIMO einzubauen. Da ist noch viel Platz über im Decoderfach.
Da es jetzt ein 4030 Spezial-Soundprojekt gibt habe ich mich entschlossen
eines der Modell umzurüsten.

available. The thin PluX16 adapter should allow an easy installation.
Actually there is plenty of space left.
As there is a new special sound project for the 4030 I
decides to update one of my models with a sound too.

Der Umbau ist sehr einfach und sicher, es sind nur grundlegendste
Lötkenntnisse erforderlich. Zunächst das Gehäuse öffnen, Inneneinrichtung
ausklipsen und die Platine demontieren. Das erlaubt die beiden Kondensatoren
zu entfernen die mit 200nF einen relativ honen Wert haben. Manche Decoder
schaffen dann den Motor nicht korrekt anzusteuern. Der MX648 kann damit
umgehen. |

The update is quite simple. There is only basic
soldering experience necessary. Just open the body remove the seats.
Dismount the PCB, this allows to remove the 2 capacitors. They have 200nF
which might cause troubles on some decoders. The MX648 can handle that load.

Die vorhandenen brüchigen Kabel werden mit Decoder Drahtresten ersetzt. Ich
habe dazu auch gleich die genormten Farben verwendet um bei späteren
Wartungsarbeiten nicht lange nachdenken zu müssen wozu das jeweils gut ist |

The original lousy cables get replaced with decoder
wires which are leftovers from previous decoder installations. I used the
well defined decoder wire colors. This simplifies later inspections if
necessary.
