Building Stones and Rocks

Zur Gestaltung von Anlagendetails benötigt man immer wider einmal Steine, Felswände oder ähnliches. Diese Seite zeigt eine Möglichkeit dazu

Manny layouts need stones and rocks to shape details. This page presents one way to do it.

Form / model

Zum Formen des Geländes benutze ich auf meiner DoppelKreis-Anlage Zellfaserfasermaterial mit Kleister vermischt. Diese Material wird in Europa von Modellbauläden angeboten. Man kann aber auch selbst zum Tischler gehen und Holzschliff besorgen. Mit Kleister zu einer möglichst trockenen Masse vermischt ergibt das ein sehr gutes Baumaterial.

Dieses Material drücke ich mit der Hand in eine Form. Obiges Bild zeigt eine Woodland Form die in Europa von Noch vertrieben wird. Ich hab' sie bei Conrad gekauft.

To shape the landscape I use pulp material mixed with wall paper cement. This stuff is offered in Europe in many hobby shops. Alternatively you can ask for ground wood at a carpenter. Just mix it with cement and water to get a dry stuff. This gives a perfect and light material.

This material is filled into a mold by hand. The picture above shows a Woodland mold. It is distributed by Noch here in Europe. I bought it at Conrad.

Es ist beim Einformen sehr wichtig das Material fest in die Form zu pressen um die Details möglichst gut abzuformen.

It is important to press the pulp into the mold to shape the fine stone details.

rohe Steine / raw stones

Nach etwa 2 Tagen Trocknungszeit, am besten auf einem Heizkörper, kann man die künftigen Steine ausformen. Man muss den richtigen Zeitpunkt experimentell selbst herausfinden. Wenn man zu früh ausformt, verliert man die feinen Details.

Neben dem Zellstoff kann man auch Gips oder ähnliche Materialien verwenden. Der Zellstoff bietet den Vorteil der leichten Bearbeitung und vor allem geringes Gewicht.

After 2 days drying time you can remove the rocks from the mold. You need to find out the timing yourself. If you are too early the fine details get lost.

You might use Gypsum as well. The pulp has the advantages like easy to shape with a knife and the low weight.

Grundierung/ base color

Die abgeformten Steine werden je nach darzustellendem Gestein grundiert. Ich verwende dazu unterschiedliche Farben und Materialien. Die Steine auf dem obigen Bild sind alle mit Wandfarben in Moltofillmasse bemalt. Der Mittlere links lediglich mit grauer Wasserfarbe. So erreicht man unterschiedliche Strukturen.

The rocks get a base color. Depending on the material you want to shape different colors and methods can be used. In teh picture above all rocks got painted gray with a gypsum milk. Only the middle on on the left was colored just with gray water paint.

Pinsel/ brush

Die erhabenen Stellen der Steine werden mit einem Borstenpinseln mit weißer Farbe hervorgehoben

The embossed spots are enhanced with a white colored brush.

fertige Steine/ finished rocks

Die Farbe ist möglichst trocken aufzutragen. Lieber 10 mal die gleiche Stelle überstreichen, als einmal zuviel Farbe auftragen.

Fehler können aber leicht korrigiert werden, falls zuviel Farbe am Stein haftet, einfach noch einmal mit Grau nach streichen.

You need to use a dry brush. It is better to brush a spot 10 times than using too much color.

If you make errors they are easy to fix, just paint it again in gray and start over.

Neben einzelnen Steinen kann man die Teile auch zusammenfassen und miteinander Verbinden. So gestaltet man leicht abwechslungsreiche Felswände

Apart of single rocks you can connect them together. Breaking the rocks into peaces and reconnecting them in a new order shaped amazing Rock walls.

In the rock wall some parts or fragments are easy to spot.

Steinsäule/ rock

Obiges Bild zeigt eine benutzte Steinform, mittleres Stück rechts in dem Bild der Abgeformten Teile. Dieses Stück wurde stark beschnitten und mit Zellstoffmasse ergänzt. So entstand eine völlig andere Erscheinung. An die Rückseite wurde ein weiteres Stock angeklebt und verspachtelt um eine noch realistischere Erscheinung zu erhalten.

The Picture above shows on of the shapes I use. It is the middle peace right in the picture of the peaces above. The part was cut to fit into the space. I added more pulp to shape a new appearance. Another peace was glued to the back side to get 2 even more realistic rock.
